The CALL TO ACTION… A Forgotten Art Form!!
Monday, December 8th, 2008I have seen so many missed opportunities in the past week that I thought it was worth reviewing the “call to action” again. It is the bedrock of all online marketing plans, and it seems this has been forgotten lately.
Typically defined as “Words that entice recipients to do something”; they are used on e-mails and web sites by the most successful online marketers. When you add analytics review to a good call to action, you have the recipe to be successful online.
A good call to action is what separates the “big boys” from the “marketers on training wheels”. To compare it to the life of a real estate agent, it’s basically just like asking for referrals after a settlement. A) We have to remember to actually do it and B) It is more successful if you structure the words properly.
Hopefully, a veteran agent has explained to all of you the difference between “do you know anyone I could assist?” and “who do you know that I could assist?”; the second question eliciting a much preferred response with better results all around.
It is the same thing with online marketing, you have to do it consistently and you also have to phrase the words properly! But it seems that the process is liked a ship beached on the sand right now…
We need to get back to the basics of online marketing, and this includes constant calls to action, repeated branding, etc… Time for all of us to block off an hour or two for review; check your stock emails in your drip system or Outlook, and look through your web landing pages to make sure the calls to action are strong enough to “elicit responses”. I spent an hour on mine last night and plan to go back through the rest this week.
Send, review, edit… Send, review, edit… Rinse and Repeat!!
